The Pelican Branch Library is excited to announce its annual Big Buck Contest, which will run from October 1, 2024, until the end of deer season on January 31, 2025. This contest is a fantastic opportunity for local hunters to showcase their skills and potentially win a prize.
How to Participate:
No pre-registration or entry fee is required. Participants can enter by bringing a photo of their trophy buck, along with their name and phone number, to the library located at 145 Jackson Street during business hours:
Monday: 9 AM - 6 PM
Tuesday - Friday: 9 AM - 5 PM
Saturday:9 AM - 1 PM
Alternatively, entries can be submitted via email to ljackson@state.lib.la.us, posted on the library’s Facebook page [DeSoto Parish Library](https://www.facebook.com/DeSotoParishLibrary), or texted to 318-464-6425.
Share Your Hunting Story:
The library encourages participants to share the story behind their harvest, including the equipment used—whether a bow, rifle, or primitive firearm—and the experience of tracking the buck. Library staff are eager to hear all the details!
Exciting Prize:
The hunter with the largest buck will be awarded a $100 prize.
Library Resources:
In addition to the contest, the Pelican Branch Library offers a variety of resources for hunters, including books, magazines, and DVDs focused on hunting tips and game recipes.
BIG BUCK CONTEST RULES:
1. Deer must be a whitetail buck and killed in DeSoto Parish, Sabine Parish or outlying areas within the days of October 1, 2024 through January 31, 2025.
2. Pictures of bucks killed within a deer-proof fence or any other confined areas are not eligible.
3. The pictures of the winning deer will be published on Facebook, desotoparishlibrary.org and in the newspaper.
4. Hunters violating Game Laws are disqualified from entering this contest.
5. Only one entry per person and only one prize awarded to any registered hunter.
6. Tie breakers will be determined by spread, largest measured spread will win.
